Alpine Haven

Alpine Haven is 3 miles from Whiteface Mountain, 1 mile from the West Branch of the Ausable River, and 2 miles from the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge. Alpine Haven has three bedrooms, two baths, great mountain views, a wood stove and an outside campfire and barbecue, a spacious kitchen and a dining area framed by windows, linens, cooking and eating utensils, Satellite TV and DVD, high speed Wireless internet access, and a washer-dryer. Alpine Haven is fully winterized and heated. All you need to bring with you are clothes, food and fishing poles.

Children can lay out their sleeping bags in the yard, and thrill to the nightly concert of song birds, accompanied by light shows of fireflies, and the spooky calls of owls, bobcats and other woodlands critters.
Local wildlife is common around the Haven area. Please, no pets allowed at Alpine Haven.

Guests have full access to the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehabilitation Center, canoes & kayaks for use on the West Branch of the Ausable and Lake Everest, and a dock for fishing and swimming.
The Refuge's 50 acres includes a guided, mile-long nature trail through a birch and conifer forest for anglers and light duty hikers. The trail is child-friendly, and a great place to look for local wildlife. In addition, the Refuge features the wolf walk, with our resident pet wolves, Cree and Zeebie, as well as non-releasable education animals, like eastern coyote, bobcat and fox, and birds of prey, such as Bald Eagle, Great Horned Owls, Barred Owls, Screech Owls, Barn Owl, Red-Tailed Hawks, Broad-winged hawks, Swainsons Hawks, Rough-Legged Hawks, Goshawks, Peregrine Falcons, Merlins, Turkey Vultures and Ravens. You can hike, bike or drive to the Refuge, which is about 2 miles from Alpine Haven.

More serious hikers are within easy range of High Peaks Trails, and the high peaks towns of Wilmington, Jay and Lake Placid offer nightly summer activities for young and old alike, everything from plays, concerts and art exhibits to fireworks and blue-grass/ rock and country bands under the stars. Alpine Haven is  open all year round, renting in July and August, from Saturday-to-Saturday, while there will continue to be a three night minimum stay the rest of the year.

Formed by the damming of the West Branch of the Ausable River, at the bridge in Wilmington, Lake Everest features a public beach in Wilmington, on Route 86, about a 1/4 mile west of the four corners in Wilmington. The Park on Lake Everest provides a great place for younger kids who want to play in and around the water on a sandy bottom. At Lake Everest you can launch canoes and  kayaks, fish for the famous Ausable River brown and rainbow trout, play volleyball, or just picnic under the lovely cedars that cluster around the shore. Lake Everest has rest rooms, barbecue pits, and country/ rock/ folk concerts every Thursday Evening in July and August.
