 Two miles from Whiteface Mountain, and 15 minutes from Lake Placid, the delightfully rustic Chickadee Lodge sits on a gently sloped, wooded hillside facing Whiteface Mountain. Three Bedrooms, two full baths, great views and a fleet of bird feeders among lovely rolling gardens, make Chickadee Lodge a great vacation getaway for large families planning an active outdoor vacation, and quality time together in a rustic and open-space designed family lodge. The 15' x 20' Master Bedroom on the first floor features a walk-in closet and bath. The second floor has two bedrooms and a shared bath. The kitchen has all the latest appliances, including range, refrigerator/ freezer, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and dishwasher, while there is a washer-dryer set in a first floor laundry room. The family room, which opens out into the dining and kitchen areas, has a glass-fronted wood stove and great views of the ski slopes on Whiteface. Bring your hiking boots and fishing gear, as you're within a couple of miles of the West Branch of the Ausable River, the great hiking trails up Whiteface Mountain, along the Flume and in the Wilmington Range. In fact, High Peaks hiking for aspiring 46ers, and easy mountain hikes for beginners, featuring wonderful summit views, are all around. Or, just relax in the backyard with the birds, the gardens and the soothing sounds of the multi-level wildlife pools. Ausable Loj and its sixty acres of fun and adventure, is only a few miles away. At the Loj, you can paddle our canoes and kayaks up and down the Ausable River and Lake Everest, walk your dog on the Wildlife Refuge Trail, and show your kids owls and hawks recovering in the Wildlife Rehab Center, or meet Cree, the resident, mascot wolf. As an option to ease your aching muscles after a long day of exercise, you may request that a portable hot tub be installed by Adirondack Holiday before your arrival. Lake Placid is only 15 minutes away, and the drive through the Wilmington Notch, along the West Branch of the Ausable, with its mountains, wildlife, fly fishermen, rock climbers and roosting raptors, is one of the prettiest drives in America. Lake Placid has great restaurants and shopping, as well as Olympic attractions like the hockey rink where the Americans upset the Russians in the 1980 Olympics, the speed-skating oval where Eric Heiden won all those medals, and the bizarre and futuristic-looking Olympic ski-jumps. If you'd prefer action, you and your kids can ride the Olympic bob-sled and luge. Chickadee Lodge has a three night minimum stay, and in July and August, only rents from Saturday-to-Saturday. Chickadee Lodge has a local caretaker, who provides plowing service in the winter, and can recommend hikes, biking courses, fishing locations, restaurants and other activities. |
