Lisa Bryant, a reporter for UPI based in Paris, was visiting brother Dirk Bryant of the Nature Conservancy in Keene Valley, a family friend and neighbor, and rang us up looking to go hiking. I'd been up Algonquin twice, but wanted to finish hiking the MacIntyre Range, by hiking over Boundary Peak from Algonquin to Iroquois, 8th highest of the High Peaks. Alex and Joshua had yet to hike Algonquin, second highest mountain in New York, so off we went from the Adirondack Loj on our hiking adventure. Given the perfect hiking weather, and the fact that it was Sunday, the trail up Algonquin was fairly crowded with hikers of all ages, in high spirits, engaging in friendly banter with fellow hikers. Alex and Joshua returned to home base after the hike up Algonquin, while Lisa and Steve continued on to Iroquois, a fairly easy extension, featuring high cols between both Algonquin and Boundary, and Boundary and Iroquois. These trails were, however, quite muddy, and the final ascent up Iroquois had two somewhat difficult scrambling and body-wedging obstacles.  We almost missed the herd path to Iroquois from Algonquin, which is narrow and tunnel-like, and proceeds directly across from where the trail to Lake Colden plunges down the back of Algonquin.
