Silver Lake Mountain
Good Views, Easy Hike, Great Mountain for Kids
Catamount & Taylor Pond left, Douglass Mtn. and Silver Lake right
Taylor Pond, left, with Catamount behind, Douglas, right, with Silver Lake far right.

This is a trail for the whole family. Silver Lake Mountain combines the virtue of nice views at multiple elevations (of Whiteface, Esther, Catamount, Taylor Pond, and Silver Lake), with a short (just under a mile), and relatively easy hike (no real scrambling). In addition, Silver Lake Mountain is only about 15-20 minutes north of Otter Chalet and Deep Woods Cabin. Head north on Springfield Road, left onto Rte. 86, right onto Bonnieview Road at the four corners, then follow Bonnieview north. When Bonnieview ends, turn left towards Hawkeye, and about 5 miles west, where the telephone poles and power lines shift from the left side of the road to the west, look for the trail sign on your right.
