The south wing of Ausable Lodge is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath, waterfront vacation getaway for wildlife lovers, which comfortably sleeps six-to-eight guests. Ausable Lodge features hot tub, cedar barrel sauna, canoes and kayaks, great views of Whiteface Mountain, fireplace, propane stove and outdoor campfire, an educational hiking trail, along with Satellite TV, surround-sound iPod setup entertainment center and high-speed wireless internet access. The south wing features a new kitchen, opened up to expand the dining area, and a large heated sun porch, which serves as a second bedroom. The sun porch has two very comfortable, thick-mattressed futons, as well as a fold away ping pong table, and propane stove. There is also room to throw down an inflatable mattress, or alternately, the inflatable may be set up in the living room, in front of the fireplace. All the interior photos on this page are from the south wing of the Lodge. The south wing features parking, its own private entrance, ski-rack, washer-dryer, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer with ice-maker, and range, as well as a forced hot-air furnace to supplement the fireplace and propane stove. Ausable Lodge forms the heart of the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehabilitation Center, where your family will meet our educational wolves Cree and Zeebie, foxes, bobcats and learn about birds of prey, and the role they play in nature. Non-releasable great-horned owls, peregrine falcons, red-tailed hawks, rough-legged hawks, barred owls, screech owls, broad-winged hawks and ravens, live in spacious enclosures surrounding the lodge. These are raptors who are healthy, but whose release is prevented by individual disabilities which hinder their ability to hunt and compete in the wild. Food and daily exercise are provided for them, and they, along with the wolves, serve as subjects in educational demonstrations and talks. |
