Deep Woods flat screen, fireplaceBedroom 3
Large stone fireplace with flat screen TV in Living Room

An authentic old Adirondack cabin with dutch doors and casement windows, Deep Woods Cabin is 2 miles from Whiteface Mountain, and has four bedrooms, a full bath and a half bath, a breezy and bug-free wrap-around screened-in porch, a stone fireplace, an outside campfire and barbecue, an outdoor hot tub, an eat-in kitchen with a cozy old-fashioned wood stove (as well as a modern range), linens, cooking and eating utensils, Flat screen Cable TV and DVD, high speed Wireless internet access, and a washer-dryer. The hot tub is being installed in April 2012, and will be available as long as outside temperature exceeds 30 degrees. Deep Woods Cabin is winterized and heated. All you need to bring with you are clothes, food and fishing poles.

Children can lay out their sleeping bags on the futon in the screened-in porch, and thrill to the nightly concert of song birds, accompanied by light shows of fireflies, and the spooky calls of owls, bobcats and other woodlands critters.
The seasonal stream that helps drain Quaker Mountain babbles through the property in front of the cabin, drawing wildlife and providing a great place for the kids to find frogs and salamanders. The guest creature check list at Deep Woods Cabin includes Fox, Black Bear, Moose, Bobcat, Great Horned Owl, Hummingbirds and Pileated Woodpeckers, the large woodpeckers “Woody Woodpecker” was modeled on. You can walk your dog through the trail system behind the cabin.

Guests have full access to facilities at the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehabilitation Center, which include a hot tub with changing room, cedar barrel sauna, canoes & kayaks for use on the West Branch of the Ausable and Lake Everest, and a dock for fishing and swimming.
The Refuge's 60 acres includes a guided, mile-long nature trail through a birch and conifer forest for anglers and light duty hikers. The trail is child-friendly, and a great place to walk your dog or look for local wildlife. In addition, the Refuge features our resident pet wolves, Cree and Zeebie, as well as non-releasable education animals, like bobcat and fox, and birds of prey, such as Bald Eagle, Great Horned Owls, Barred Owls, Screech Owls, Barn Owl, Red-Tailed Hawks, Broad-winged hawks, Swainsons Hawks, Rough-Legged Hawks, Goshawks, Peregrine Falcons, Merlins, Turkey Vultures and Ravens. You can hike, bike or drive to Ausable Lodge and the Refuge, which is less than a half mile from Deep Woods Cabin.

More serious hikers are within easy range of High Peaks Trails, and the high peaks towns of Wilmington, Jay and Lake Placid offer nightly summer activities for young and old alike, everything from plays, concerts and art exhibits to fireworks and blue-grass/ rock and country bands under the stars. Deep Woods Cabin is  open all year round, renting in July and August, from Saturday-to-Saturday, while there will continue to be a three night minimum stay the rest of the year.

Formed by the damming of the West Branch of the Ausable River, at the bridge in Wilmington, Lake Everest features a public beach in Wilmington, on Route 86, about a 1/4 mile west of the four corners in Wilmington. The Park on Lake Everest provides a great place for younger kids who want to play in and around the water on a sandy bottom. At Lake Everest you can launch canoes and  kayaks, fish for the famous Ausable River brown and rainbow trout, play volleyball, or just picnic under the lovely cedars that cluster around the shore. Lake Everest has rest rooms, barbecue pits, and country/ rock/ folk concerts every Thursday Evening in July and August.
