  • Description

Hot Tub! Waterfront! Mountain Views! Heron House is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath mountain retreat on the Ausable River. Heron House has an open, spacious ground floor. The screened porch, great for lounging, runs the length of the house with views of the river and Whiteface mountain. The outdoor hot tub is perfect for watching the sun set over the peaks of the Wilmington Range. And the enclosed outdoor shower is a luxurious way to warm up after a beautiful hike or to cool down after a day in the sun. Guests spend evenings gathered around the old stone fireplace in the living room with a board game or good book, or watching a movie on the satellite TV (HD, flatscreen). The 7-acre property is at the end of a long private road, protected by dense woods from the sounds of traffic and civilization.

Heron House has 4 bedrooms (3 upstairs, 1 downstairs), which comfortably sleep 10 guests, and has all the comforts and conveniences of your own home, including high-speed wireless internet, washer-dryer, propane grill, etc. The full kitchen is great for cooking. In the warmer months, there’s a fire pit outside. There’s plenty of room on the grassy lawns to throw a frisbee or set up a tent for sleeping under the stars. And don’t miss the tetherball pole!

In the warm months, guests practically live on the river, rafting, fishing and swimming right off the dock, and paddling in the 2 kayaks (provided). There are countless great swimming spots in the area, and many are just a short car ride away. Heron house is situated in the heart of the High Peaks region. Guests have easy access to the breathtaking hiking of the Adirondack Mountains and the same scenic bike routes used by the Lake Placid IronMan competition. There’s blueberry picking in the area, and the foliage in the fall is world famous. Evening trips to the Whitebrook Dairy are a must.

In the winter, spotlights on the river-side of the house highlight the gently falling snow. There’s downhill skiing at Whiteface Mountain (a 5-minute drive), miles of XC-ski and snowshoeing terrain, sledding, and peaceful walks on the frozen river. A trail from Heron House leads to the nearby Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, home to wolves, bobcats, foxes, bald eagle and other birds of prey. For movies, shops and restaurants, it’s just a 15-minute drive to the Olympic Village of Lake Placid.

The caretakers are less than a mile away. They can answer any questions about Heron House, and recommend sites to see, things to do, which restaurants to try, etc. There is no lovelier place in the world to vacation than the Adirondack Mountains: the Adirondacks have it all.
